Choi Yan Chi
Choi Yan Chi is the first generation Hong Kong contemporary artist. She has been actively committed to promote contemporary art in Hong Kong since 1980’s
1990 Choi was a grantee of the Asian Cultural Council fellowship.
In 1992 Choi was invited as one of the key note speakers for the first conference on Contemporary Asia arts at Asia Society , New York.
In 1992 Choi was invited as Hong Kong artist to show at the First Asia Pacific Triennial in Queensland Art Gallery, Australia.
In 1993 Choi was given a solo show at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, Germany.
1998 Choi founded 1A Space; Now It is one of the progressive, non- profit contemporary art spaces in Hong Kong and is funded by Hong Kong Arts Development Council
1998 Choi was awarded artist of the year by Hong Kong Arts Development
In 2002 Choi joined Hong Kong Baptist University and helped to establish the Academy of Visual Arts of Baptist University.
In 2008 Choi was awarded Distinguished Provost’s Visitor by the University of Southern California as visiting scholar
Five artist catalogues on Choi’s work have been published by the Hong Kong Arts Centre, “An extension into Space” in 1985, the University of Hong Kong,”Choi Yan Chi’s painting and works of art in dialogue with poetry and dance” 1986. Haus der Kulturen der Welt , on “Choi Yan Chi” 1993, An artist catalogue “Books are breathing” co-funded by Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 1998 and Para/Site Art Space, “Refabrication” in 2006.
